Marigold Extract Powder

Lutein is extracted from marigold flower. Lutein is kind of Xanthophyll and one of naturally occurring Carotenoids. Usually lutein coexists with its isomer zeaxanthin, and they can be interconverted in the body. Lutein is synthesized only by plants. Humans and mammals must obtain lutein from food. 

Lutein powder has yellow-red color, and it is insoluble in water and propyl glycol; slightly soluble in vegetable oil and n-hexane; soluble in ethanol, and carrene; easily soluble in ethyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran and chloroform. Lutein is unstable to light and hydrogen, and it has to be stored in sealed, cool, dark and dry condition.

Production Process：

Marigold petals → freeze-drying → crushed and sifted → proportionally added ethanol solution of extractants THF and KOH, and reacted at room temperature under nitrogen protection → filtration → Leaching → Concentration → Paste → dissolved in ethanol aqueous solution (volume ratio 1:1) → Adjusted pH value of extraction solution with acetic acid to neutral → centrifuged supernuant → lutein coarse product.

Lutein is an important Antioxidant , a member of the carotenoid family (a group of naturally occurring fat-soluble pigments found in plants), also known as "phytolutein", which co-exists in nature with zeaxanthin. 

(1) The main pigment components of the retina: lutein and zeaxanthin constitute the main components of vegetable, fruit, flowers and other plant pigments, and are also the main pigment of the macular area of the retina of the human eye. Human eyes contain a high amount of lutein, this element is not produced by the human body, must rely on intake of lutein to supplement, if the lack of this element, the eye will be blind; Lutein structure；

(2) Protect the eyes from light damage, delay the aging of the eyes and prevent lesions: ultraviolet and blue light in the sun into the eyes will produce a large number of free radicals, leading to cataracts, macular degeneration, and even cancer.
